Every helping hand makes a difference
At Acumentis, we believe that everyone deserves a safe and decent place to live. This core belief aligns with the vision of Habitat for Humanity, one of the world's largest not-for-profit housing providers, dedicated to supporting low-income families and vulnerable groups.
Inspired by their mission, our team rolled up their sleeves and joined Habitat for Humanity Australia's Brush with Kindness program – an initiative that mobilises volunteers to refurbish crisis accommodation and transitional shelters. These spaces provide refuge for those experiencing homelessness and women and children escaping domestic violence.
Together, we spent the day painting, deep cleaning, and gardening, working to transform living spaces into welcoming, comforting environments. Beyond the physical work, we shared stories, laughter, and a common goal: to make a tangible impact on the lives of vulnerable families.
The Reality of Homelessness and Domestic Violence in Australia
The need for secure and stable housing has never been more urgent:
- Over 120,000 Australians are homeless (Homelessness Australia, 2019).
- Only 6% (7,636) of homeless Australians sleep on the streets, the rest rely on temporary accommodation shelters or couch surfing (Census 2021).
- Domestic violence is a leading cause of homelessness in Australia.
- One woman is killed every week by a current or former partner due to domestic violence.
- Nearly a quarter of homeless Australians are under 18 (Census, 2021).
- More than 7,300 women aged 55+ experience homelessness, often hidden from view as they move between temporary accommodations (Census, 2021).
These statistics underscore the importance of providing safe housing solutions. Since 1976, Habitat for Humanity has been at the forefront of this mission, helping over 59 million people globally secure safe and stable homes. In Australia, their Brush with Kindness program has mobilised over 10,000 local volunteers to build and repair homes.
Why Acumentis Partnered with Habitat for Humanity Australia
As a company deeply involved in property services, Acumentis understands that a stable home is the foundation for a better future. We partnered with Habitat for Humanity Australia because of their commitment to providing safe and affordable housing to those in need. Through the Brush with Kindness program, we’ve been able to support local communities by renovating shelters that provide essential refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence. This commitment to support those in need of safe and secure housing extends on from the support Acumentis provides Mangrove Housing and The Forgotten Women through the Live Life Her Challenge, which aims to provide fit-for-purpose housing for homeless women over 55 with individually tailored support.
What Our Team Had to Say

Here’s what some of our team members had to say:
“It was incredibly rewarding to see how much of a difference a fresh coat of paint and a little effort can make in someone’s life. Knowing that we helped create a brighter, more welcoming space for those in need was good for the soul.”
“This experience really opened my eyes to the realities of homelessness and domestic violence. It reinforced just how vital safe housing is, and I’m grateful to have played a part in supporting this cause.”
